Why crowdfunding?!

We have already secured a significant part of the funding for the Goddess Gracious Tour 2027, and we are incredibly grateful to Het Cultuurfonds, Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunst, K.F. Hein Fonds, and Bylandt Stichting for believing in our vision. Their support allows us to take burlesque to a new level and establish it as a respected part of the Dutch theatre landscape.

But there is still a funding gap to close, and that’s where we need our community. With your support, we can bring Goddess Gracious to theatres across the Netherlands in 2027 and continue building a future for authentic burlesque on the Dutch stage.

Courage and Dedication:
There is another challenge.

Traditional arts committees are often still unfamiliar with burlesque. While burlesque has inspired countless artists in music, fashion and film, productions celebrating erotic playfulness, body diversity and sexual liberation are still sometimes met with hesitation when it comes to funding and programming.

Because some still view burlesque through a narrow or patriarchal lens and therefore struggle to comprehend the diversity of our art form, we cannot rely solely on conventional cultural subsidies. Changing perceptions takes time. That’s why we also need the support of the people who already believe in what we do.

The reality check: creating high-quality burlesque art costs money 

Fulfilling our mission is also only possible if everyone involved is paid fairly. While our grants provide a strong foundation, they don’t cover the full costs of producing a large-scale professional theatre tour.

To put it simply: producing a professional theatre show comes with significant costs. As we move into larger theatres, our technical requirements grow. For example, alongside our brilliant current technician, we now need a second technician to safely and professionally run productions in larger venues. There are also travel expenses, set design, costumes, transport, and many other production costs that quickly add up. But most importantly, fair pay for our performers, crew, designers, and production team is not a luxury, it’s one of our core values.

We are also proud to be welcomed back by iconic venues like Stadsschouwburg Utrecht, De Kleine Komedie, Leidse Schouwburg, Schouwburg Hengelo, and Schouwburg Odeon Zwolle. And even more theatres are opening their doors to us, including SPOT Groningen, Kunstlinie Almere, WestlandTheater De Naald, and Posthuis Theater Heerenveen.

Together, we’re proving that burlesque belongs on the Dutch theatre stage.
